The brief

The British Homing World, published by the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, stands as the UK's premier weekly pigeon racing publication.

 

The newspaper was going up in size to a tabloid so the design and layout needed a refresh to provide readers with an updated look. Taking advantage of the new larger size meant creating a better reader experience as I was able to enlarge both images and text – giving more impact. Templates needed to be created for the client to produce this publication on a weekly basis.

The outcome

I developed user-friendly templates and style guides for the artworking team. Recognising the time constraints faced in laying out a large weekly publication, I prioritised simplicity in the design. The templates featured pre-set layouts for regular pages, with columns ready for adding in copy. I created advert sizes and a media pack for advertisers and designed repeatable adverts for the team to drop in.
