As a designer (and I suspect every other designer too) I find myself constantly looking at graphic design - it’s everywhere from shop fronts, van graphics, or magazine layouts, my eyes are always drawn to the details. I notice the errors, appreciate the good designs and feel a sense of pride when I see my own work in the world. It’s just what our creative brains are wired to do!
Something that I spot consistently is social media logos being used incorrectly. While I admit I’m a stickler for rules, it surprises me how frequently well-known brands and small businesses overlook the brand guidelines for these logos.
A particular pet peeve of mine is when businesses alter the Facebook logo to match their own brand colours. It clearly says on the Facebook brand resources page not to do this.
All social media companies frequently update their rules and their logos, even their name (looking at you X, formerly Twitter). So, for every project that I am using social media logos I do check the current rules and ensure that I have the latest logo downloaded.
I do sympathise with businesses that have spent money on printed materials where it is difficult to change the latest social media logo, and is understandable why they may be still using the Twitter logo, but if it is on your website then this is easy to update.
Working with me you will always be guaranteed I will use social media logos correctly, at the time of use, in the design work I create for you. This may come across as tedious to some but for those that are like me and take pride in doing things right at least we know our backs are covered and it won’t come back to bite us!
